About the Author

Author, Dr. Joita Bose Mandal is a well-known Indian Classical Vocalist of Hindustani Music, Khayal and Semi-Classical Music, Thumri, Dadra, Bhajan, Geet, and Adhunik Bangla Music. She is the daughter of the renowned Hindustani Classical Vocalist, Vidushi Kamala Bose, and hails from a family that has a rich tradition of contribution to the field of performing and fine arts. She is the granddaughter of the late Shri. J. D. Mazumdar, a reputed Violinist of yester years.

Joita took her musical training from her mother, Vidushi Kamala Bose and has also learned from the eminent musicologist, Vaggeyakar Pandit Ramashreya Jha of Bhatt Parampara of Prayagraj. Later, she came under the tutelage of Pandit Parameshwar Hegde, a stalwart of the Kirana, Gwalior and Patiala Gharana.

She was awarded a Doctorate of Music by the University of Allahabad on successfully completing her thesis on 'Vaggeyakar Pandit Ramashreya Jha, Ramrang's Life and his Compositions’, and received five gold medals from the Allahabad University on securing the highest percentage of marks in the Arts Faculty in the year 2001.

She is currently settled in Los Angeles and continues teaching students of Indian Classical Music.
